Description
Initiatives provide a framework to plan, execute, and attribute Cred to work that adds value to SourceCred.
Initiatives make it easy for the community to keep all the information on a project in one place. Then via the Champions, References. and Contributions categories it’s easy to flow Cred to the appropriate nodes.

Description:
We now have an initiatives category on Discourse (this one). However, SourceCred isn’t yet aware of it, so Initiatives don’t yet flow any special cred.
We should add initiatives directly to the SourceCred graph.
Status: In progress
The plugin has been merged into master!
The remaining steps are to start using it for the SourceCred instance,
and create a versioned release of the SourceCred code including this plugin.
See Release v0.5.0 .

I’d like to create a document that is a Beginner’s Guide to Initiaives. This guide would use clear, concise language to explain what an Initiative is, how it’s used in SC, and how to create one.
It would also become one of multiple guides within the Getting Started Category.

[META: This is a draft of a guide for new community members to learn about what an initiative is, and how to create one. This document will be added to and expanded on the more I read and metabolize topics related to Initiatives. Open to suggestions and corrections in the comments. Any italicized, all caps notes are meta commentary and invite conversation in the comments. Currently version 1.1]

A place for ideas that could be turned into initiatives.
Each idea can be a comment in this thread. Each comment should be a Wiki. This signals that the idea is open for improvement by the community and/or adoption by a champion. It is expected that ideas are rough, so making them editable by the community will help to refine them over time. If you end up championing an idea please just add that to the comment linking to the official Initiative for that idea!
Initiatives to improve SourceCred
Initiatives will be a focal point for minting new cred and flowing it to contributors. Every new topic in this category will be populated with an Initiative template. Please fill this template out to the best of your ability. If you’re having trouble filling it out completely, perhaps the endeavor is not yet ready to become an initiative. In this case please start drafting the Initiative in the Initiatives Wish List category, then move it into th…

This topic is not an Initiative. As mentioned in the comments below, this thread is an experiment to explore what does and does not qualify as an Initiative . This topic does not qualify as it’s really a contribution to a larger initiative.

So far, SourceCred has tracked contributions at the level of raw activity. Here are some examples of activities we track:
GitHub pull requests
GitHub comments
GitHub Reactions
Discourse posts
Discourse likes
The activity data has been a great starting point. Activity data is easy to collect automatically, so we can get a reasonable baseline for cred scores.
However, using activity data alone has serious issues. Valuing any individual piece of activity can be quite hard, and the activity data…
Going through everything to organize it.
There’s lots of stuff that needs to go in the Initiatives Wish List . Some of these are retroactive and some are future looking. In both cases we would like Initiatives for them.
There’s also a lot of championed initiatives that are either not started, in progress, or completed. Hard to tell just by browsing the Initiatives category. Adding tags to make these easier to understand and contribute to.
So TL;DR: things need tags. Just adding words is kind o…
